The Court, Royal Palace

Built between 1904-1906 by the same architect as the Casino, the Royal Palace was intended for the royal family as a summer residence.

The Royal Palace in Constanţa was the first royal residence on the Black Sea and the construction began in 1902, being completed in 1906, the year in which King Carol I celebrated four decades of reign and a little over a quarter of a century since the people of Dobrogen became subject to him.

Inside, beautiful oil frescoes decorated the official reception rooms, the spacious reception hall and some of the king's study rooms. With the construction of the Royal Palace in Constanța, the city by the sea entered the extremely short list of official residences of the country, King Charles I wanting to give it, at the end of his life, at least as much attention as the one in Sinai. The southern facade of the Royal Palace has two long terraces, closed with wrought iron metalwork that announces the wonderful Art Nouveau style. Another entrance to the building, the eastern one, is also marked by a porch specific to neo-Romanism.

Even if, at first, the sober King Carol I thought that his Palace in Constanţa would be, rather, a residence of relaxation, the destination quickly entered the official protocol. From here, from the Royal Palace in Constanța, Carol I frequently watched the lavish preparations for the inauguration of the Lighthouse that bears his name, one of the most modern in Europe at that time, but, more certainly, he lived moments of the adventure of the land offensive of the Romanian army in Bulgaria, in the summer of 1913, tasted the sublime of the reunification of Dobrogea, his beloved province.

The fates were good for the former residence of the old Carol I and as if, in an act of historical justice, today, above all, in the former Royal Administrative Palace (Constanța Court), the law has the last word.
